Anonymous asked: What do you do when you are battling temptation?

I don’t rely on myself a single bit. I say, “God, I’m way too little and  weak to resist this on my own, but here it is, and I give this moment, and my trust, to You. Guide me. Protect me, for I can’t do it alone. Be with me, give me grace and strength, and if I do overcome this with success, let every bit of glory go to You. Not to me.” Each success, every little triumph over sin, is nothing for which we deserve credit. It’s all God, working through us. I think that, just like Jesus defeated sin and death on the cross, He demonstrates that, in little ways, in our daily lives. It’s how He shows that we hold His grace of salvation in us.

In short: Never try to battle temptation alone. Run to the Father, give it all to Him, with unfailing trust. You’ll not be harmed. And trust in friends to pray for you! They’re treasures on earth who can help tremendously.

In order, I’d suggest three practical things. First, pray to the Father for help. Second, do something to distract yourself. So much of temptation comes from simply being idle. So go for a walk, call somebody, do early birthday shopping for your best friend, make a sandwich, watch funny cat videos on youtube, drive around and listen to the radio. Last, ask for prayer from others, especially in the future.

Love and a prayer for you tonight, my friend (:

discouragement is around every corner.

I guess the point is to stop looking at the ground, around corners, in mirrors, and look… up.
